In many ways, 2023 was The Perfect Storm for anyone who enjoys video games. Delayed development and release timelines combined with titles that had always been planned for the year ended up cramming the calendar full of an endless deluge of incredible titles, demanding the attention of the masses.

Over the course of the last 12 months, we’ve played some of the best games not only in recent memory but of all time. It’s abundantly clear that 2023 is going to go down as one of Gaming’s best years, given the embarrassment of riches we’ve been spoiled with.

It’s not easy to pick out a group of games that stand as the best of the best, as any such group will unavoidably leave out others that also deserve your attention. However, we’ve attempted to do just that here. Join us as we count down our favorite 30 games of 2023, culminating with our Game of the Year.

29	Diablo 4	Diablo 4 impresses with its massive, dense open world, addictive progression loop, and compelling combat. Despite post-launch issues, the game shows how deeply the genre can still engage players.
28	Like a Dragon	Like a Dragon delivers another standout experience with its excellent remake and fascinating period Japanese setting. It stands toe-to-toe with the series’s mainline outings, a testament to Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio’s efforts.
27	Lords of the Fallen	The wait for Lords of the Fallen was long, but Hexworks and CI Games delivered a Souls-like experience that captivates players with its challenging gameplay and rich world.
