Well, well, well! PlayStation has finally confirmed a new event, and it’s not a showcase but a State of Play instead. This event is airing very soon, and there has been much buildup leading to it. Let’s talk about some predictions and the journey that got us here.
It’s been a year since the last showcase, and for many, it was seen as disappointing. However, there were four PlayStation Studio announcements, which is significant considering the time games take to develop. With Sony now having 15 in-house studios, along with external second-party teams, four announcements for a live stream is quite decent. Although Spider-Man 2 gameplay stole the show, there were also two CG trailers for live service games that may have been overlooked. Additionally, Hell Divers 2, which later became a huge success, was initially met with disappointment.
Given the pent-up demand and expectations post the last showcase, there is a fair anticipation for a bigger presentation this time around. As we approach year four of PS5, a console life cycle peak year, there’s a need for a clearer roadmap for the PlayStation 5’s future. Hence, the hope is that this state of play event will provide a more comprehensive look at what’s to come.
What makes this event intriguing is the fact that we’ve already had a state of play earlier this year. These events have varied in quality, from boring to exciting. The previous one was particularly well-received, showcasing games like Hell Divers 2, Silent Hill, Rise of the Ronin, Stellar Blade, and the surprise reveal of Until Dawn for PS5 and PC. It’s clear that these state of play presentations can be full of surprises and announcements that keep players on their toes.
With high expectations and a history of delivering both hits and misses, all eyes are on the upcoming PlayStation State of Play event. This could be a crucial moment for Sony to set the tone for the future of the PlayStation 5 console and the gaming landscape as a whole.
