Exciting Upcoming Racing Games to Look Forward To
Opening this list is the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Booster Course Pass DLC. It looks like Nintendo is holding off on Mario Kart 9. They’re treating Mario Kart 8 Deluxe the same way they did with Super Smash Brothers Ultimate, with its season pass offerings starting March 18 and up to the tail end of 2023.
Players can enjoy 6 waves of 48 remastered tracks from the previous Mario Kart titles. Each wave offers 8 courses of nostalgic or sometimes frustrating classic Mario Kart levels. For Switch Online Expansion subscribers, you can get each wave for free. But for regular Switch owners, you’ll have to pay $24.99 for each wave.
Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown
Now, this is what you call luxury. The latest Test Drive title from Nikon takes you to the life of the elites. Enter the bustling streets of Hong Kong in this one-to-one recreation. Select from a wide variety of fancy cars including Ferrari, Lambo, Porsche, and so much more. Enjoy open championships with other players from around the world and show them who’s boss. The game comes out on September 22 for all major consoles.
Car X Streets
If you enjoy Need for Speed Underground or its edgier street racing counterparts, Car X Streets also has something to quench those late-night racing needs. There are no police chases or hip-hop soundtracks to keep your adrenaline pumping here. Instead, it’s a realistic simulation of how you speed through the moonlit streets. Explore neon-lit skylines and immerse yourself in this detailed world. You can even challenge other players in real network races. As of now, details are scarce; however, the game is scheduled to come out on September 8 on Steam.
Disney Speed Storm
Disney’s Mario Kart contender. Considering this game is also coming out on the Switch, unlike Mario Kart’s item-based competition, Speedstorm is a hero-based racing game where every character offers their abilities to the arena. The full roster isn’t available yet, but it will include popular characters like Mickey Mouse, Jack Sparrow, and Monsters, Inc.’s Sully. They will have unique powers that can shift the tide of the competition and maybe even ruin some friendships. Race through iconic Disney locations from The Jungle Book, Pirates of the Caribbean, and many more. It comes out sometime this summer.
Expansim
This is the only VR supported title on this list. This driving simulator is intended for anyone who wants to immerse themselves behind the wheel of a variety of vehicles, from trucks to buses, and even forklifts. It doesn’t offer much complexity in its gameplay. It’s a tool for driving enthusiasts to relax, learn, and enjoy for hours. The game promises a lot of vehicles to tinker with, so check it out once it comes out this August on Steam.
Airborne Motocross
Of all the titles on this list, this one seems the most different. Airborne Motocross plays around with physics, resulting in absurd racing shenanigans.
